The durable solution to commercial roofing
Trap Tee Panel: Montana’s Go-To Solution for Durable Commercial Roofing
At Protech Steel, we understand that the demands of commercial roofing in Montana—and across the Mountain West—are no joke. Harsh winters, blistering summers, heavy snow loads, and extreme wind events are just part of the equation. That’s why we proudly manufacture the Trap Tee Panel, a symmetrical, mechanically seamed roofing system that brings a new level of durability, weather resistance, and long-term performance to commercial steel roofing.
In this article, we’ll explore what makes the Trap Tee Panel such a powerful solution for commercial applications. Whether you’re an architect, contractor, or building owner, here’s what you need to know.
The Trap Tee Advantage — Strength by Design
The Trap Tee Panel is built to outperform traditional trapezoidal standing seam systems by eliminating their three most common failure points: weak endlaps, limited wind uplift performance, and difficult repairs. Featuring a 2 3/4″ rib height and a symmetrical mechanical seam, this panel is designed for industrial and large-scale commercial use where strength, efficiency, and longevity matter most.
What sets the Trap Tee apart is its ability to be site-formed in continuous lengths up to 250 feet, removing the need for endlaps entirely. Every endlap is a potential leak point and long-term liability—especially in harsh climates like Montana. By eliminating them, Protech Steel’s Trap Tee Panel gives commercial roof systems a tighter, longer-lasting seal.
Montana’s extreme climate requires steel roofing systems that can take a beating. The Trap Tee Panel is tested to the industry’s highest standards, including:
ASTM E1592 for uplift resistance
ASTM E1680 for air infiltration
ASTM E1646 for water infiltration
It also meets FM Global standards and features a seam cap with two factory-applied beads of continuous sealant, ensuring watertight seams even under severe weather pressure. With a minimum slope requirement of just 1/4:12, the Trap Tee is well-suited for low-slope applications on warehouses, distribution centers, industrial buildings, and retail complexes.
Because of its symmetrical design, panels can be easily replaced without affecting surrounding areas—perfect for buildings that may require retrofits, additions, or equipment updates down the line.
At Protech Steel, we manufacture all of our steel products right here in Montana using 100% American-made materials. Our Trap Tee Panel is available in 18″ and 24″ widths, with optional substrate upgrades to 22 or 20 GA Galvalume®. We offer multiple coating options, including Kynar 500® (PVDF) for long-term color and corrosion resistance.
This panel can be installed over open framing or solid decking, giving contractors the flexibility to match site conditions. With no endlaps, reduced install time, and bi-directional seaming, the Trap Tee makes high-performance roofing more efficient without sacrificing quality.
And because we operate regional manufacturing and site-forming capabilities, your materials arrive faster and made to spec—keeping projects on schedule and within budget.
We don’t just manufacture panels—we partner with commercial roofing professionals to deliver roofing systems built for real-world performance. The Trap Tee Panel is a reflection of our commitment to innovation, integrity, and Montana-tough standards.
If you’re planning a commercial project in Montana or the surrounding region, the Trap Tee offers unmatched performance in strength, span, and serviceability. Whether you’re designing a distribution facility in Billings, a manufacturing plant in Bozeman, or a new commercial development in Helena, Protech Steel is here to help you get the job done right.
